Feb 25, 2012 · The file bla.h3m is on my HOMM3/Maps folder and when i fire up the game and click on the filter 'ALL' (to see all available maps), the map 'testmap' is listed there. Naturally it says i can't play it 'cause the map is just a bit of terrain and nothing else. I'm on win 7, so i ticked the 'Run as Admin' checkbox on the game and map editor shortcuts.

Available on Steam, GOG. Sometimes on Humble Bundle. Not free, but usually fairly inexpensive. There is an android engine that can run the game. Heroes 1-3.
